Self Care Routine Tips

Caring for ourselves is the most important thing to do. It’s a sign that we love and respect ourselves. We have to first and foremost take care of ourselves before we can take care of others. Self-care is not all about pampering ourselves to a luxurious spa or a luxurious vacation. It’s more than that.

Here are my self-care routine tips/ideas that you might enjoy or you could incorporate in your daily life: 1. Spend time with your fur buddies. If you have pets, as I do, I suggest that you take a small amount of time playing or hanging out with them. Some of us might be busy at work, with regular or part-time jobs or even working overtime, and when we got home, we just wanted to turn in to bed. I used to have a 9 to 5 job, Mondays to Fridays, sometimes even Saturdays, and whenever I got home from work, I’d always play and cuddle with them. They are my stress reliever after a very long and tiring day. I grew up having pets around, and they already became a part of my daily life. Simple gestures from us would mean a lot to them. You could also join groups and participate in activities with others. It is fun, exciting, and the joy it brings is worth it. 2. Read some books or the Bible. Reading books expand our vocabulary. Other benefits of reading also include memory improvement, stress reduction, mental stimulation, additional knowledge, and improved focus and concentration, according to a published article by Catherine Winter.

You could also read your Bible for spiritual connection. Unlike reading some books, reading a Bible, it does gives you a different fulfillment. I suggest you do it when you wake up in the morning or before turning in to bed. Though reading is not for everybody, I think that including this in your daily routine might be good for you. 3. Watch movies Watching movies doesn’t follow going to a movie house. You can download videos to your PC or laptops then grab some popcorns and chips. There are also streaming sites like Hulu, Amazon Prime, or Netflix that you can choose from. 4. Have your hair and nails done. Isn’t it lovely to go to a salon once in a while to get your nails and hair done? It could be once in a month, or once in a few months, that depends on what you would prefer, of course.

You could also even try doing it yourself at home, there are a lot of videos on YouTube, plus it saves you money. 5. Have a good night’s sleep. Some of us might not get enough sleep, weekdays workload then a night out over the weekends. Schedule at least a day in a week to do this and turn in to bed early. Recommended sleep for young adults ages 18–25 years old and adults 26–64 years old is 7 to 9 hours, according to the National Sleep Foundation. 6. Be lazy. Was there a time that you don’t want to do things? There’s nothing wrong about it. Sometimes I just lay on a couch, staring at the ceiling for 15–20 minutes gives me relaxation. 7. Make a delicious breakfast. Spend a day and make a delicious breakfast. Get recipes from Pinterest, blogs, and YouTube. A simple yet tasty breakfast once in a while. 8. Go outside. Try to get some fresh air. A 30 minutes walk maybe or a stroll or go to your local library, go out. If you are busy working and juggling all responsibilities as a woman, always make sure to have time for going outside and taking fresh air. Seriously? Like, yeah. I do this mostly late in the afternoon, I go for a stroll in the park, or sometimes I eat out.

9. Try to take some time off on social media. Nowadays, different social media platforms, internet access, and mobile phones have been a part of our daily lives. If not all, but most likely, friends have social media account — Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat or Instagram, and others.  Communication became more accessible and faster, and it’s evolving. Although it has many advantages, there are also disadvantages. For instance, the increasing number of user’s spreading fake news could affect other people’s emotions, and it is not good and healthy at all.  Some may find it challenging to do so, but I urge you to try. Stay away from your phone for an hour, then you could increase it to a few more hours eventually, and you will see the good results. 10. Have a cup of coffee or tea time. For some, nothing is as great as having a good cup of coffee or tea to start up their day. I love having coffee in the morning and the afternoon. Whatever your preference may be, try to take some time doing this. No rush, no small talks, just enjoying your coffee or tea. I bet that you would love it. 11. Try to learn something new. Do not limit yourself only to the things that you can do, but instead, what more can you do. Just because you know something doesn’t mean you won’t learn anything. Anything could be learned if and only if you wanted to.  For example, learning a new skill. There are a lot of online learning community nowadays which teaches a wide variety of skills that you may be interested with. If you are not into cooking maybe you could take some cooking lessons. Skills can be learned and develop over time, try something new, who knows you might figure out your passion. 12. Do physical activities. There are various physical activities that you can do. You could do some exercises like running, walking, or contact sports like boxing, mixed martial arts, or you could even do activities in the comfort of your homes, such as yoga or Zumba. Being healthy is not just about eating the right food but also taking care of our bodies. 13. Spend time with your friends. In my opinion, self-care is not limited to yourself only. I mean, hanging out with your best friend or friends once in a while is fun. Birthdays, reunions, or just catching up with them would make you feel good. So, when was the last time you go out with your friends?


14. Learn to say no.


Learning to say no helps you establish healthy boundaries and makes you feel empowered. It will also let others get clarity from you and help them know what to expect from you.


There are a lot of ways to take care of yourself and your inner being. Remember, always take care of yourself before taking care of others. And most importantly, make decisions that would make you happy and would bring you inner peace.
