Cellulite is a skin condition commonly found in women. It looks like a bumpy or dimpled skin found around the hips, thighs, and buttocks. It can also be found on the lower abdomen, upper arms, and breasts, according to Mayo Clinic.
What causes cellulite to occur?
According to WebMD, cellulite is normal fat that is beneath the skin, and it looks lumpy because it pushes against the connective tissues, which cause the skin to wrinkle. This is the reason why anybody can have it, whether you’re fat or thin.
Why do women get cellulite than men?
Women produce a hormone that is called estrogen and this hormone makes fat, while the testosterone, a primary hormone found in men, breaks fat.
When women age, their skin also losses its elasticity. Most women develop cellulite after puberty; this is because the fat is distributed in the hips, buttocks, and thighs where cellulite is commonly found. Weight gain can make cellulite more noticeable, and some lean people can also have it. Genes, pregnancy, and an inactive lifestyle can also increase the chances of having cellulite.
How to get rid of cellulite?
There are many invasive and noninvasive treatments to get rid of cellulite, and these are as follows:
Cryolipolysis. A noninvasive procedure that freezes and kills fats. Once dead, the body naturally removes them.
Laser Treatments. Cellulaze is one of the popular FDA-approved laser treatment. The doctor will inject a numbing solution in the area then put a laser on your skin shooting in three directions.
Massage. Some say that massaging the problem area will increase blood flow and can reduce fluid buildup.

Does eating healthy foods prevent developing cellulite?
Eat This gave us lists of the foods that we could avoid:
Processed Meat and Cheese
These kinds of foods are high in sodium and sodium causes water retention. Water retention and bloating can mean visible cellulite. Try looking for a low-sodium alternative for these products at least, if you can’t avoid them.
These are cheap ones but the same with processed foods, it also contains a lot of salt, which then leads to water retention and dehydration.
Soda and Sweetened Beverages
Bread, cereals, and other foods also contain sugar; however, it is more abundant in sodas and other sweetened drinks. And cutting back our sugar intakes could help slow collagen demise on our bodies.
If you can’t avoid it, why not try to lessen its consumption? You can have lemon and water; it detoxifies your body and a great way to start your day!
Drinking plenty of water, staying hydrated all the time can lessen the appearance of cellulite.
Most barbeque sauce comes from high fructose corn syrup, which increases appetite. An increase in appetite could lead to gain weight, the appearance of cellulite, and what’s worrisome is that it could spike up blood sugar levels.
Sad to say, but cottage cheese contains high sodium. But you can substitute Greek yogurt instead.
Pizza and Bagels
Who doesn’t love pizza? But it is one of the most significant food sources of saturated fats. Saturated fats are unhealthy dietary fats. Because this is unhealthy, it slows blood circulation and oxygen flow in the body. But don’t worry, you can still make a home-made pizza for your family.
Margarine and Buttery Spreads
Just like saturated fats, trans fat is also one of the unhealthy dietary fat. And margarine and butter spreads are no exception to this.
It gives color and adds flavor to dishes, and it contained sodium. Excessive consumption of this is not good for the body. The good news is that you can still opt to use a low-sodium soy sauce in cooking.
Bread is an excellent source of carbohydrates. Though carbohydrates are good for the body, it converts into sugar and glucose, which could damage collagen. So, consuming a lot of carbohydrates may worsen the appearance of cellulite.
Doritos and Snack Cakes
Processed snacks like Doritos contain monosodium glutamate (MSG) as part of their ingredients. MSG is an additive known to increase appetite. Increase appetite equates to weight gain, and this means visible cellulite. You can still eat your favorite cake, though, don’t worry. We know that too much sugar in the body could lead to gain weight and collagen breakdown; thus, worsen cellulite. If you can’t avoid eating chips, at least try some other alternative healthy snacks.
Cellulite is harmless in the body.
In this day and time, with the variety of foods available in the market, the risks of getting unhealthy are high. And the most unhealthy foods are the cheapest ones.
Eating healthy foods does not guarantee a healthy person, but this is a great way to prevent diseases in the future.
“You are what you eat,” I believe this statement is true and correct. What you put inside your body can affect your health, maybe not in an instance, but it will have gradual effects.
